Overview

“Between the mountains and the sea!” This tour is the motto of this 9-day riding tour, a perfect combination of the gentle hills of the Tuscan region. It is the twisty and challenging road of Corsica that runs along the slopes of the coast of Sardinia. And there will also be time to lie down on mountain curves that pass through these two stunning islands in the Mediterranean Sea. One day on the beach, local life, superb food, and complete this tour created for all riders who love riding the twisties! As our guest, you will be in skillful hands during your days here in Central Italy. Tour Leader Enrico Grassi, Founder of Hear the Road Tours, is a native of Rome who spent years traveling every corner of the country he is proud to be his home.

Enrico has spent many hours developing the routes to ride, the cities to visit, the sites to see, and the hotels and food options key to making this kind of adventure something to remember and cherish.

This fabulous tour starts and ends in the beautiful, ‘Eternal’  city of Rome.

On returning to the hotel Enrico will be ready for the tour briefing where he will also answer any questions.
To finish off the day we’ll all go out and enjoy a great “Welcome Dinner”, and have time to learn a lot more about the upcoming exciting days.

Day 2 Heading north towards Tuscia, we will cross the areas once inhabited by the Etruscans. Here you will see some of the largest hazelnut groves in Italy, the nuts used by Ferrero to whip up the famed Nutella spread.

After stopping in in Civita Castellana for a short break, and drinking your first Italian coffee on the road, we’ll continue our ride: first along the great roads that run parallel to Lake Vico and Lake Bolsena, and then onto the scenic country roads of Val D’Orcia – an amazing UNESCO World Heritage site.

We’ll be stopping for lunch in Radicofani, under the shadow of an amazing 973 AD fortress. This small town has won an Orange Flag (The Orange Flag Award is a prize given by the Italian Touring Club since 1998 to well-kept, lesser known Italian towns).

Continuing towards we stop to visit Pienza, considered to be the incarnation of a Renaissance utopia and an ideal city. Today it continues to show off to the world its refined and sophisticated Renaissance urban plan: its spaces and perspective onto its 15th-Century “piazza and palazzo” are organized according to the era’s ideals of rationality and humanism.

Back on the bikes we ride the sweeping roads that cross the Crete Senesi, famous for its stunning moonscape.

For your first evening meal in Siena you will be indulged by Mrs. Letizia, owner of a lovely 16th century Inn, with a truly scrumptious dinner to celebrate your first biking day in heart of Italy.
OVERNIGHT IS IN SIENA. (The hotel has a swimming pool)

HIGHLIGHTS:
Tuscia Viterbese, Civita Castellana, Val D’Orcia, Radicofani, Pienza, Crete Senesi, Homemade Dinner.

Back on the bikes we challenge the sweeping road towards Volterra before plunging into the scenic roads of the Colline Metallifere, a little-known, but fascinating part of Tuscany.

After a short stop in the beautiful hamlet of Bolgheri we reach the town of Livorno where we spend our second night.

An then a big thumbs up! Yes, because from Bastia, traveling on the fabulous roads of this rugged island, we head north following the coast line around the thumb of Corsica before heading south to Ferayola.

Today’s riding is always a most unforgettable motorcycle experience; a perfect mix between coastline roads with their dramatic cliffs, desolate areas like the Desert des Agriates, and twisty mountain roads.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Cap Corse, Nonza, Desert des Agriates.

Day 5 es, everything is surreal: You are in Hell, or if you prefer you are in Paradise!

The coastline road from Ferayola to Cargese is something impossible to describe: narrow, challenging roads, spectacular landscapes with the mountains reflected into the sea. The scenery of Les Calanche is simply stunning!

And, once we get Cargese, the fun continues! Riding the mountain road to Bonifacio is both breath-taking and scenic…arriving in Bonifacio in plenty of time to catch the ferry to Santa Teresa di Gallura on the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia, ending another day of fabulous riding!
OVERNIGHT IS IN SANTA TERESA DI GALLURA

HIGHLIGHTS:
Col de la Croix, Les Calanche, Bonifiacio.
road-mid-r.png
Day 6 We leave Santa Teresa di Gallura heading south challenging the beautiful roads of the Gallura.
After a coffee break, we’re off to Tempio Pausania, at the foot of Monte Limbara; a charming town famous for its cork products and the production of granite.
We ride further before reaching the Roccia dell’Elefante, “The Elephant Rock”; a striking dark trachyte rock sculpted by the wind to resemble an elephant. After a good lunch with the Elephant, we are on the bikes once again towards Alghero, an ancient Catalan town on the Mediterranean Sea.
After a short visit of the town, we are challenged again by the scenic coastline from Alghero to Bosa. Leaving Bosa we climb up towards Tresnuraghes, our destination for the next 2 nights.

Then we wind our way back to Rome on more nice roads.

After returning the bikes we arrive at the hotel with time to freshen up before getting together for our “Tour Celebration” dinner, courtesy of Hear the Road.
